Also known as the bane of my existence..
So you just scored a killer domain and you have the perfect buyer in mind. Awesome! But wait. The domain is locked for 60 days. Oh no! You can’t get in touch with said buyer because you know they’ll want to take possession of the domain immediately. The registrar doesn’t even have an account push option. The horror!
If you’ve ever been in this situation, you know it ain’t fun! Essentially the registrar is holding your domain hostage. There goes your sale. There goes your precious cashflow. You have to sit on that puppy for two whole months. Is it just me or is it time to get rid of this arbitrary registrar lock. Or GREATLY reduce it. Obviously this is a rhetorical question because we all know the answer is YES. Do away with it or reduce it to a more sensible time frame. You might hear from the registrar that their hands are tied. “It’s ICANN’s doing, there’s nothing we can do about it.” Well, maybe the registrars should get together and (along with their users) sign a petition, saying we want this lock thing kyboshed. Surely, if the majority want the freedom to move their domains quickly, this should become the standard? No? /End of rant.
