I logged into my BrandBucket account earlier today to adjust some prices and noticed they’ve added a lease-to-own option. This feature is currently in beta-mode so I’m unsure if it’s available to all sellers or a select group. When this option is enabled, the buyer can develop the domain and also receive @domain.com emails. They do not receive total control of the domain till payment is made in full. In the meantime, it sits nice and safe in an escrow account.
I’m hardly surprised that BrandBucket has introduced this feature considering much of their competition has been doing the installment/lease-to-own thing for quite some time. Whether it becomes a permanent fixture remains to be seen. Personally, I’ve enabled this option in my account (even if only temporarily) just to see if it boosts sales at all. I won’t get the entire amount upfront however if I can do volume, I could be looking at a decent amount of cashflow. And cashflow is mucho importante!
I go more in-depth on the subject of installment plans in this post from last month. I questioned whether or not they’ll become standard practice and it kinda looks like that’s what’s happening.
Well, that’s about it for today folks. Catch ya on the flip-flop!
